Join The Sages Read Challenge:
Author C. Alexander London once wrote, “It’s a fact, people can survive without books. People can even have wonderful, full lives without books. But they can’t long endure without community, and communities are built on stories.” With that in mind, the Sages Read committee has been working to bring our community together around story. In 2017 we launched the Choose Kind community read, bringing Monticello together around the books Wonder and We’re All Wonders by R.J. Palacio.
In 2019 we launched the Sages Read Challenge. This year we’re issuing twenty challenges and letting you pick the books to read that might meet that challenge. Whether they are picture books, graphic novels, or something else, we’d love you to join us. You might find yourself reading outside of your normal genre, picking up a book you normally wouldn’t, or learn something new about the world.
Look for recommendations on the Sages Read Facebook page, at Hartfield Book Company, or at Allerton Library. All students who finish a challenge sheet by the end of 2019 can bring them to Hartfield Books for a $5 gift card. And look for a new list of challenges to come out in 2020.
Ultimately, we’d love to see this wonderful community of ours talking about books and coming together to share stories. We hope you enjoy the 2019 Sages Read Challenge.
Happy Reading! The Sages Read Committee
